Wayne Mardle and Colin Lloyd select six of the best first round ties at the World Grand Prix

As defending champion Michael van Gerwen starts his bid the World Grand Prix gets underway in the Citywest Hotel on Sunday molding.
The double-start format notoriously produces shocks and this season promises to be no exception.
As the players descend for seven days of drama that was darting, we spoke to Sky Sports pundits Wayne Mardle and Colin Lloyd to receive their thoughts.
We keep mentioning it — its getting away, and its finishing. However, its the only real event of the year that destroys this players rhythm.
I keep looking at this Adrian Lewis-Jermaine Wattimena game. I could envision this turned into a event, although that should be a bit pacey.
Adrian just doesnt understand what he is doing at the moment. Jermaine just wants to get on it. But with it, you cant simply get on with double-start. You have got to think about it.
I have got a sense the winner of Price vs Chizzy — I believe the winner of that game reaches the final in the half.
I think that Cost and Chizzy are playing daily, world class darts. They are playing very well.
They are playing with liberty, theyve got confidence. Whoever comes through that introductory stinker that is true, will thinkI can do that and rightfully so.
I have been saying this for ages — Rob Cross can not continue to perform and he is rather than win. Since hes given enough chances to himself rather than taken them, although that shifted at the Matchplay.
Hes got to start taking them. He is the second-best participant in the world, that is suggested by his position, but because there is only eight seeds in this, can it be the worst possible draw?
That is a true [best ten player] in Mensur Suljovic. That is the most horrendous draw I believe Ive seen in a very long time. That is a complete stinker as draws go, although Ive not ruled out Rob.
This is a difficult opener for MVG. He has never defended that the Grand Prix. He has consistently won it in years. Jamie Hughes is a superb player and he will not be bothered by enjoying with Michael.
He has had some wonderful results this past season. Jamie has played with some things that is amazing as well although I understand a lot of the limelight has been on Glen Durrant.
Being the terrific champion he is, he will be ready for this match, although michael has got his work cut out.
I think Jamie will give a battle to Michael. Its a format , first to just two collections so that is anyones game I believe.
Glen is obviously a world winner from the BDO system. He had a great run in the World Matchplay, only being discontinued by Michael Smith. Hell want to assemble on this but Krzysztof Ratajski has won the European Tour event in Gibraltar so he is playing with some stuff that is fantastic.
Hes a really dangerous player. The only thing which worries me is he doesnt appear to make that kind of form in regards to events that are televised. That triumph in him somewhat could have settled and it has settled him.
I believe that is an absolute cracker. You can not really choose a winner but when Krzysztof does not turn up, Glen is when it comes to televised darts and he will just go up there and also do the job.
That third quarter of this draw is absolutely brutal. Whoever gets through this quarter, theyre likely to need to play with some terrific things because theyll be moving home.
We know Gary is a fantastic player. We havent seen a lot of him and hes won many other TV events although hes a world champion. How is his shape? Is his TV type?
We have not seen to give a clear conclusion on his form is, although I know that he had a cracker of a game with Peter Wright a couple of weeks ago at the Players Championship at Barnsley.
Keegan Brown is a player. He does not fret about who he is playing. He goes up there and plays with his game.
Keegan has beaten some huge players on TV before, but Gary is such a competitor. Would it be a shock? I really dont understand. I think Gary Anderson may just pip it, but hes got to be on his match.
The activity in Dublin gets underway Sunday, October 6 at the Citywest Arena and seven days of policy continues until the closing on Saturday.
