After holding the thrilling fightback in among the US Open finals of Russian Daniil Medvedev rafael Nadal won his Grand Slam title.
Spain’s Nadal, 33, won 7-5 6-3 5-7 4-6 6-4 from the fifth seed in New York.
Nadal, seeded second, has been cruising in two places and a break up, just for Medvedev to force a decider.
However, Nadal stopped his momentum to clinch a victory in 51 minutes and four hours.
Him moves within among rival Roger Federer’s tally of Grand Slam successes.
«It’s been one of the most emotional nights in my tennis career,» Nadal said. «It has been an awesome final. It’s been a crazy game.»
Nadal fell to the court covering his face as contemplated another victory that epitomised his fighting spirit all, after shooting his game point.
Medvedev, 23, trudged across the internet to congratulate his rival, who looked on the brink of tears because he covered his head with his sweat-soaked vest whilst shooting acclaim.
«I only need to congratulate Rafa, a 19th Grand Slam name is something unbelievable, bizarre,» Medvedev said.
