Europe created a positive beginning to the 16th Solheim Cup as they edged Team USA in the opening foursomes session in Gleneagles.
Jessica along with Nelly Korda, the first sisters to play with each other in the competition, produced an outstanding performance to conquer Jodi Ewart Shadoff along with Caroline Masson 6&4 in match three, but this proved the only real win for the holders as Europe led into the afternoon fourballs with a 2.5-1.5 advantage.
Bronte Law’s first taste of Solheim Cup activity led to a battling half with Carlota Ciganda at the top game against Morgan Pressel and Marina Alex, until Georgia Hall and Celine Boutier put the very first blue on the board using a 2&1 win over Lexi Thompson and Brittany Altomare — Thompson’s first defeat in case since 2013.
Azahara Munoz and also charley Hull piled an inviting morning for Catriona Matthew’s staff off with Annie Park at the anchor match and also a hard-fought success over Megan Kang, making sure a repeat scoreline in the contest a couple of years ago.
