Shane Lowry insists that he isnt putting himself under extra pressure to acquire the Rush to Dubai.
Lowry began 2019 in Abu Dhabi along with his Rolex Series success, when he stormed to his maiden title before his home fans at Royal Portrush, winning The Open by six 42, but he surpassed his achievement.
The Irishmans stellar year has assured he is firmly in contention to terminate the season as European No 1 for the very first time, and he will look to regain the lead at the top of the Hurry to Dubai standings at the Italian Open was jeopardized by Spanish Open winner Jon Rahm last week.
Obviously Id love to pass Jon this week, but finally, its just going to matter who is No 1 in the end of November, said Lowry. I have plenty of events made, I feel like my game is great enough and I feel as if I will give it a really fantastic go. I am very enthusiastic about it, and it would be a fantastic end to what has already been a excellent year for me personally.
If I win the Hurry to Dubai, itll be good. Im not going to sit at home and cry about it if I dont, but obviously it would be a massive thing for me. So I will give it my best to take at the best scores I would like win that trophy.
Finally, its likely going to come down to the last few events. Im going to continue doing exactly what I have been doing. It is very exciting that Im there and Im excited about the challenge.
Clearly I want to keep attempting to pick up some Ryder Cup points and maintain challenging myself daily to take the best scores I could, and just sort of keep playing with my golfing, keep doing what I have been doing all season, and also to win the Hurry Dubai, that would sort of high off what has already been an unbelievable year.
Lowry and house favorite Francesco Molinari, the guy he replaced as Open champion will play with the opening two rounds in Rome, after missing out on the May and the Italian is bidding.
Molinari has fresh and fond memories of claiming his maiden European Tour victory after he pipped Danny Willett by a stroke, and he delighted the Milan supporters again.
I feel that the very first win on Tour, I never knew that it was coming , clearly at home, I feel nobody really expected me to win at the beginning of the week, he said. You could almost feel that the expectations growing through the week, and it was just an awesome relief to the 18th green, seeing all the folks there celebrating, tons of families and friends.
I couldnt have asked for a greater win on Tour, but the second one was very different. Many years after, and clearly different conditions and expectations from the start. I had a season, but that I hadnt won in a few decades.
At a house event, in case you start well, youll truly feel the vibe changing and people kind of expecting you to acquire and to bring the trophy home. Yeah, I just remember the back nine on Sunday, actually not playing my very best golf, but just grinding hard and again, huge relief on the 18th green.
