It is a game Norwich City fans will talk about for ages.
Their victory over defending champions Manchester City has been the way of this victory and a major Premier League shock surprised those fans.
This thrilling 3-2 win was typical of the extreme, front-foot style executed from the German because he walked in to Carrow Road in May 2017 — and reached its summit on Saturday night after the terrific reward of winning the Championship last season.
Could that operate in the Premier League? Those delirious fans that greeted the final whistle on Saturday — their staff getting the very first encouraged side to beat at Manchester City at 25 efforts since March 2015 — appeared in uncertainty.
The time Norwich experienced an event like this against Manchester City had been in 2005 if the club’s toolbox, Delia Smith’s member, grabbed the mic after they’d dropped a lead and launched her infamous speech to fans.
Delia exhorted the Norwich lovers having an unscripted, impromptu speech requiring:»We need a 12th man . Where are you? Where do you? Let’s be with you.»
The Canaries lost that game 3-2. This may not happen to be a starker contrast. The joy was unconfined. The din ear-splitting.
She knew where they were here. You could not miss them and you can certainly hear them.
As every quality the rickety Farke has injected to his team was on screen it turned out to be a wild 90 minutes at a rocking Carrow Road.
Noise levels were high during an emotion-charged match but the utter elation and the din on the faces and from each home fan’s body language told this magnificent story.
In terms of Manchester City director Pep Guardiola, this was a menacing screen of hapless defending that has brought the reduction of Aymeric Laporte for six months into sharp focus into the departure of Vincent Kompany and a serious knee injury.
Liverpool have opened up a five-point gap which must not be permitted to grow any larger, despite this year in its infancy.
Manchester City’s defects, and the fact that they will rely on the unreliable in partners John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi until January, will be pored over.
But nothing has to be allowed to do any disservice to magnificent Norwich.
After he grabbed off the names of eight players ruled out by 24, farke effectively had to run a head count prior to the game.
No-one would have known as accept they were doomed from the face of the wealth of Manchester City and quality and Norwich refused to feel sorry for themselves creating a performance that has been true to their supervisor.
Farke dismissed suggestions he would go to the defensive, with early observations of the attacking strategy suggesting it would render them exposed to sides of greater quality, as proved from the 4-1 loss at Liverpool and the home defeat by Chelsea of Norwich.
Norwich has not been taken by him this way to forsake his principles now and this was a 95-minute advert for why those of us who dared them for relegation may yet be ordering a large helping of humble pie May.
Norwich may undergo a little pain but this is a team which won’t be left as they’re clearly determined to attack at against the Premier League wondering why.
Farke’s starting line-up cost the princely sum of 6.45m while the champions were built at a cost of 406.1m — just what a tribute to Norwich’s recruitment policy.
Into prison they organised and have been drilled in the early stages but make no mistake, they were entirely dedicated to strike if the opportunity presented itself and rough.
As Farke said with the sound of celebrations reverberating across the streets away from the arena:»we would like to win every every game and we will attempt to shield but together with our philosophy we can’t simply press a button and park the bus.
«We have to go with what we’ve got and what we believe in, which is on the front of the foot. It was not feasible to dominate the ball so we had a special program and thankfully it worked well.»
Backed with a raucous packed house, they delivered two heavy blows to Manchester City during Kenny McLean and Todd Cantwell, then demonstrated grit and resilience to shrug off the worries of Sergio Aguero’s goal right on half-time to get Teemu Pukki to crucially restore their two-goal pillow.
Farke isn’t for turning although It’s a daring approach and there is no doubt he’s a team containing the strength and ability to win games.
When measured in assurance and self-belief, and there will be from this triumph from one of the finest clubs in Europe.
If any of Norwich’s players supporters have some doubts about Farke’s style or their ability to live alongside the likes of Manchester City, they can simply slip in the DVD of this match.
It is almost unfair to mention names because each and every player was outstanding while the guile, skill and energy of Emiliano Buendia is the perfect foil for Pukki along with the running of their powerful Marco Stiepermann however Ibrahim Amadou was top-class in defence.
Farke shared the second with his players prior to making a lap of the stadium out of fans.
This is a terrible night for the winners, however the glory goes into Norwich for effect and a performance that could assume tremendous value because their season unfolds.
