Karl Burke feels a succession of races on fast ground may have contributed to Laurens’ defeat at the Matron Stakes at Leopardstown.
While disappointed Laurens could not add to her impressive tally of six Group One victories, Burke does not believe being beaten three lengths into fourth position — giving the three fillies in front of her 5lb was a terrible work.
«She’s just arrived back this afternoon and she’s good,» said that the North Yorkshire handler.
«You are always disappointed if you get beat, of course, but she had been a very long way from disgracing herself — committing away weight to three three-year-old fillies — and that time was almost half a second faster than last year Matron.
«I am convinced she didn’t really run up to her best but there is no obvious reason not, maybe several runs on quick ground has begun to catch up with her now she is a year older.»
Burke will talk whether to let Laurens proceed to your Qatar Prix de la Foret at ParisLongchamp the day or defend her crown in the Kingdom Of Bahrain Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket on October 5.
«They are the 2 races. I have got to talk it through with John after this week and also create the programs out there,» he explained.
